A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ROGERS McHUGH, THE SPECIALIST CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, FOR SPONSORING OUR CHALLENGE!

They have very kindly agreed to match the first £250 raised which will get us off to a flying start, so thank you John & team!

We know that we like a challenge at St Hugh's, so this is the biggest one yet - and a great way to raise some sponsorship money for the PTA to re-invest into improving the facilities at school and creating the best possible learning space for your children!

HOW ARE WE GOING TO MANAGE TO WALK THIS FAR?

The challenge sounds massive, but we're a big school and we aren't afraid of a big number.  When you break it down, if every child walks 2/3rds of a mile every school day then we will all have walked around the world.  Sounds a bit more manageable?

HOW FAR IS 2/3rds OF A MILE?

If you walk to school already then you're almost certainly doing this distance already every day - so you're onto a winner!  But if you drive to school then it's really easy to add the extra miles - just park a little bit further away and walk the last bit and you'll smash your target!  If you come from Manchester Road then stop at the Spar on Park Road and walk the last bit every morning and afternoon and you've done your 2/3rds of a mile.  Likewise if you're coming from Timperley on Park Road then walk from the Nisa to school twice a day and you've done a whole extra mile!  And if you come from Moss Lane then the Moss Trooper to school twice a day will give you your 2/3rds of a mile.

And don't forget that anything you do at weekend, in sports clubs or any other activities will all add miles to your total, and these all count.  Suddenly 24,901 miles doesn't quite seem as far!

DO I HAVE TO WALK?  WHAT IF I SCOOT OR CYCLE?

This is all about getting us all moving (and raising loads of money for School!), so we're happy to count your miles if you're on your scooter or bike - every mile counts!

HOW ARE WE GOING TO LOG OUR MILES?

Simple - we've created a really simple form where you can record every walk you do.  Just click the button above - and you can use it on a PC, a tablet or a phone so recording your miles is really easy!

HOW DO WE RAISE SOME MONEY?

Also simple!  You need to ask your friends and family if they will be kind enough to sponsor you for walking your miles as part of the challenge.  They might want to sponsor you per mile (but that might get quite expensive!), or simply a fixed amount for the challenge.  The easiest way to do this is online, and we've created a Go Fund Me page, which you can find here, where you can pledge your sponsorship money and watch our total grow as we get further around the globe and closer to our target.

Alternatively you can do this the traditional way - we've created a sponsorship form here which you can download and collect your sponsors and then collect the money once the challenge is completed.  We'll put a collection box in reception at school to help collect all the funds and add them to our online total

For anyone interested we've selected Go Fund Me as they charge the lowest "handling charge" or any of the online providers, and therefore more of your cash actually makes it's way to the PTA and ultimately to School - which is what this is all about!

ARE THERE PRIZES FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WALK THE FURTHEST?

We are going to make this competitive - but between Year Groups, not individuals, so you can all work together as class groups and year groups to see who can walk the furthest.  And yes, we realise that Year 6 have longer legs than Nursery and Reception, so we're going to apply a special formula to make sure that every year group has an equal chance of wining!  The prize?  Assuming the rules allow us to do this, the PTA put on a disco for the winning Year Group in the last week of term before the summer holidays where you'll all get in for free, and we'll even lay on some free snacks!
